Follower of Jesus, single foster mom, licensed psychologist, Director of Treatment for Juvenile Probation Department
Katie was born and raised outside of Philadelphia and is the oldest of five children. Her family has always been passionate about caring for kids and she has a 10-year-old adopted brother with special needs which solidified her desire to be a foster/adoptive parent. Katie moved to Austin for her predoctoral clinical internship in 2013 and fell in love with Texas. She moved to Dallas for two years to complete her postdoctoral fellowship and has been back in Austin since 2017.
Katie became a foster parent in January 2018 and has had two placements since that time. Her first placement and introduction to Austin Angels, was a 12-year-old girl (later nicknamed “big MJ”) with a lot of emotional needs. In June 2018, Katie welcomed “little MJ, a two-week-old baby with Down Syndrome (yes, they have the same initials) into her home and had both a 12-year-old and a newborn together for three months before big MJ moved into an adoptive home.
Currently, Katie is managing a full time job, part time private practice, and the busy schedule of an infant with special needs which feels like a full time job with all of his therapies and appointments. The only way Katie is able to get through each day is her relationship with Jesus and dependence that He will provide for their needs.
