Tavia earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Texas State University and spent several years teaching in a Title I school. During her eight years in Hays CISD, she taught 3rd and 4th grade, including four years in the STEM magnet program at Carpenter Hill Elementary. Her time working closely with children experiencing poverty shaped both her heart and her convictions, giving her firsthand insight into the challenges families face and the kinds of support that create lasting stability. This experience deeply influenced her early leadership and vision in helping build and expand the Love Box® program.
Tavia’s impact is also amplified through her partnership with her husband, Justin, whose business, Rate Advantage, has invested heavily in advancing the Austin Angels mission. Together, they are deeply committed to strengthening the foster care community and ensuring that children and families receive the long-term support they deserve.
As a founding member of Austin Angels, Tavia has been part of the organization since day one. For more than a decade, she has played a pivotal role in stewarding the mission — sharing the story, connecting community champions, and inspiring others to invest in the wellbeing of children, youth, and families in foster care. Her ability to bring people together around meaningful work has made her a trusted partner, advocate, and strategic philanthropist within the organization.
Today, Tavia devotes her time to her husband, Justin, their three children, and her continued work with Austin Angels. She is passionate about expanding the mission’s reach and often serves as a bridge between the organization and the broader community. In addition to her role on the Board of Directors, Tavia contributes her creativity and leadership as a member of the annual Angel Ball Gala planning committee, helping drive both awareness and critical funding for the organization’s growth.
