She moved to Central Texas in 2018 to study social work at Texas State University in San Marcos, where she met her husband Alec! After graduating with her bachelor’s degree and finishing an internship with a child advocacy center in Austin, Julia decided to also pursue a master’s degree in social work. She completed her program in December 2023 and shortly thereafter received her LMSW. Julia first heard about Austin Angels while working with asylum seekers and refugees at Casa Marianella in East Austin, and while she continues to be passionate about immigration, her values and goals matched up beautifully with the powerful work Austin Angels is doing to redefine the foster care system. Julia deeply values belonging and connection and is a firm believer in the power of community to heal us! |
